Lionel Messi Joins PSG

The soccer world is abuzz after it was revealed yesterday that Lionel Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

On Tuesday afternoon, 10 August, the 34-year-old Argentinian player arrived in Paris, France, where he signed with the Ligue 1 club on a two-year deal worth £25 million per year, with the option of an additional year.

The move came five days after FC Barcelona – hampered by debts running into billions of euros – announced that Messi would not be staying at the club, despite both parties reaching an agreement on a new five-year contract.

Speaking about his new future at PSG, Messi wrote in a Tuesday statement: “Everything about the club matches my football ambitions … I am determined to help build something special for the club and the fans, and I am looking forward to stepping out onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes.”

He will officially be unveiled in his Number 30 shirt at a PSG press conference this morning, Wednesday 11 August.
